Estimates, not counts — nobody publishes real player numbers for mobile games, so these are modelled from public signals. How we work them out
Nobody publishes how many people play The Kids We Were, so these figures are modelled from the public counts on App Store, Steam, Twitch. Each count stands in a roughly known ratio to a population — one Play rating per ~45 players, one Steam review per ~35 owners — and the estimates below combine those readings, weighted by how much each source can be trusted to speak for the whole game. Read the range as the answer and the headline as its middle.

The Kids We Were is a cinematic adventure game with a heavy focus on narrative. Set in the late Japanese Showa era (the 1980s), it's a nostalgic journey through a unique time in Japan's recent history. Take on the role of Minato, a young boy who sets out on an unexpected and incredible summer adventure. Our story begins with Minato arriving in the small town of Kagami, an exceptionally ordinary sort of place in a sleepy suburb of Tokyo. But there's more to this simple trip than meets the eye. Minato has a secret objective: he intends to find his missing father, who is supposedly living somewhere in the area. Our young sleuth Minato wastes no time getting started, and soon finds a puzzling clue to his father's whereabouts. A mysterious notebook left for him with the portentous title "The Seven Mysteries." With this notebook as his guide, Minato sets out on a long and difficult journey, not through space, but through time. For his destination is none other than 33 years in the past—the day his father and mother first met!
We estimate that about 28,000 people have played The Kids We Were — plausibly between 14K and 56K. Around 1,400 of them play on a given day, in a range of 140 and 8.5K. Both figures are modelled from public counts on App Store, Steam and Twitch rather than published by the developer, so read them as a scale rather than as a headcount.
Yes. The Kids We Were is holding steady — it measured within a percent of where it was a week ago. We recheck every source daily, and the charts on this page show each platform's readings over time.
Nobody publishes player counts for mobile games, so we infer them. Each public count we can read is converted into a population using a documented ratio — roughly one Google Play rating per 45 people who played, one Steam review per 35 owners, one Discord member per 40 players — and the live counts (Steam concurrents, members online, Twitch viewers) are converted the same way into a daily figure. Those separate estimates are then averaged in proportion to how much each source can be trusted, which is why sources that disagree widen the published range instead of cancelling out. This page is built on 2 readings taken since August 8, 2026.
